Cosmetic vigilance patch test
Patch test
A patch test is a diagnostic test method in which certain substances are applied to the skin to identify allergic reactions and the aim is to detect potential allergens and evaluate their influence on skin health.
In skin care, a patch test is used to check the tolerance of skin care products or ingredients on the skin and to identify potential allergic reactions.
1. Patch Test Cleansing Bars - Procedure:
Especially if you have sensitive skin or are prone to allergies, we strongly recommend doing a patch test before using any of our Viva Maia cleansing products . This test helps to identify possible skin reactions in advance, as intolerance to highly concentrated natural cosmetics can never be 100% ruled out.
The instructions for the patch test:
- Select the cleansing bar that you would like to test for compatibility.
- Prepare for the test by lathering up the cleansing bar
- Apply the cleansing foam to a small area of skin on the inside of the forearm or behind the ear. Make sure the skin area has been cleaned and dried beforehand.
- Leave the foam on the skin and be careful not to experience any irritation or discomfort during the observation period.
- Wash the foam off after 30 seconds
- After 24 hours, carefully check the area where the foam was applied for skin reactions. Feel free to take a photo of this if there is a reaction.
- Classic signs of an allergy: redness, swelling, itching or rashes.
- Based on your observations, you can determine whether your skin is sensitive to the cleansing foam. If no skin reactions occur, this may indicate that the product is suitable for use on your skin.
If skin irritation or other adverse reactions occur during the test, you should stop using the product.
If this is not the case and a reaction still occurs, then the dosage, application and combination of the product with other active ingredients should be examined.
2. Patch Test Toner
- Select the toner to test its tolerance.
- Apply a small amount of the toner to the area to be tested, on the inside of the forearm or behind the ear. Make sure the skin area has been cleaned and dried beforehand.
- Massage in the toner.

Dosage instructions
Dosage instructions for cleaning routines:
Our cleansing bars are highly concentrated natural cosmetic products that have been developed to gently and effectively cleanse and care for the skin.
- Dosing the cleansing bar: If your patch test shows no negative reactions, you can use the cleansing bar. Here we recommend slowly increasing the dosage of the bars from week to week.
- Lightly wet your face, lather the bar in your hands in circular motions. Apply the foam to your skin. It's important to note that our products are highly concentrated, so you only need a small amount. Start with a small amount and add more if needed.
- Gently cleanse: Gently massage the foam into the skin for 15 seconds. Avoid excessive friction or pressure, especially on sensitive skin.
- Rinse thoroughly: Rinse your face thoroughly with lukewarm water until all residue from the cleansing foam is removed.
- Pat dry: After cleansing, gently pat your face dry with a clean, soft towel. Avoid rubbing to prevent irritation.
- Aftercare: Complete your cleansing routine with a hydrating toner and an appropriate serum and/or moisturiser to hydrate and protect the skin.
We care deeply about our customers' skin health, so we emphasise the importance of patch testing before using our products, especially for those with sensitive or allergy-prone skin.
This precaution will help prevent unpleasant skin reactions and ensure that our cleansing products are optimal for your skin.
